Karamjal Tourist Center is a unique natural tourist destination located in the eastern section of the Sundarbans in the Khulna division of Bangladesh. Located on the banks of the Pashur River, about 15 kilometers from Mongla Port, this tourist center is known as the gateway to the Sundarbans. The main attraction of Karamjal Tourist Center is its dense mangrove forest and wildlife. There are various species of mangrove trees here including Gewa, Sundari, Goran, Keora, Pashur, Golpata. The wooden walkway built through the forest helps tourists safely enter the depths of the forest. While walking through this walkway, tourists get an idea of the unique natural environment of the Sundarbans.
There is a small zoo in Karamjal where some wildlife is kept in captivity. Here you can see chitra deer, monkeys, crocodiles, pythons and various species of birds. But the most interesting is the crocodile breeding center here, where efforts are being made to conserve the endangered saltwater crocodile. Various species of monkeys, goshawks and birds can be seen in and around the forest.
The Karamjal tourism center has various facilities for tourists. There is an observation tower from which you can enjoy the expansive view of the Sundarbans. There are shaded places to rest, seating arrangements and basic food facilities. During the tourist season, guides and security personnel from the forest department are present. After getting off the boat, tourists can explore here for one to two hours.
From Dhaka, you have to reach Khulna or Mongla by bus or launch. From Mongla, you can go to Karamjal by hiring a boat or trawler. From Khulna, you can also go to Karamjal with a Sundarbans tour package. To enter the Sundarbans, you have to obtain permission from the forest department and pay a prescribed fee.
Karamjal is not just a tourist destination, it is also an important center for raising awareness about the Sundarbans ecosystem. Tourists who come here get an idea of the importance of mangrove forests and wildlife conservation. Its role in the local economy is also significant.
